Banbury Antiques (Mary Beth Detrich)
What an eclectic assortment! I have been dealing in antiques for many years, and I still enjoy the business very much. Tune into any of the popular TV decorating shows or thumb through a home and garden book or magazine, and you will notice the many ways in which vintage items of all kinds are being utilized to create unique and interesting vignettes and environments. Whatever is to your taste, be it exquisite handmade linens and lace from the 19th century, a small bronze with a warm aged patina, or a fanciful figural cookie jar from the 1950s, you are likely to find it in my whimsical back room at Mr. Ryder and Company. Although I am particularly fond of great decorator items and fine antiques of high quality, I still get excited whenever I unearth the "fun stuff" while I'm out foraging for merchandise.
In 1997, an associate (Maureen Reilly) and I co-authored a book entitled "Women's Hats of the 20th Century," complete with price guide, which was published by Schiffer Publishing Company. This book is still in print and can be obtained through Schiffer or one of the online book sites such as Amazon.com. Maureen and I shared a love of vintage fashion, and after realizing there was no existing book for the vintage hat collector, we decided to put one together. It was great fun hunting for the hats, doing the research and styling the layouts for the photographs. I really enjoy vintage fashions and love to see women (especially younger ones) who are daring and individualistic enough to wear a great vintage hat, coat or dress - it definitely sets them apart from the crowd.
In addition to selling my antiques at Mr. Ryder & Co., I have been an eBay seller for eight years. Take a look at my online auctions for more great finds. Shopping for vintage is so much fun! Happy treasure hunting!
